G20 Summit: Kremlin Rules Out Putin-Zelenskyy Meeting in Miami, Keeps Moscow Offer Open

A face-to-face meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the upcoming G20 summit in Miami is “impossible”, the Kremlin said on Saturday, rejecting a proposal put forward by the Ukrainian leader.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told AFP in New Delhi that Moscow’s position on a potential meeting had not changed. According to Peskov, Russia remains prepared to host Zelenskyy in Moscow, but does not see another location as an option.

“There is a readiness to meet him in Moscow,” Peskov said.

Kremlin Rejects Alternative Venue

Peskov was asked whether Moscow was considering any alternative venue for a direct meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy. He indicated that there had been no shift in the Kremlin’s position.

His comments effectively rule out the possibility of the two leaders holding talks during the G20 gathering in Miami.

The Ukrainian side has continued to push for direct high-level discussions as diplomatic efforts over the Russia-Ukraine war remain ongoing. However, Moscow and Kyiv remain divided over both the terms and location of any potential summit-level meeting.

Russia-Ukraine Talks Still Face Hurdles

The latest Kremlin statement comes as efforts to revive negotiations between Russia and Ukraine continue without a confirmed breakthrough.

While both sides have remained involved in diplomatic discussions, major disagreements continue to stand in the way of a direct meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy.

For now, Moscow appears to be maintaining a clear position: Putin is willing to meet Zelenskyy, but only in the Russian capital. With the Kremlin ruling out Miami as a possible venue, the prospect of a Putin-Zelenskyy meeting at the G20 remains off the table.
