Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday began a high-level visit to Finland, during which India and Finland signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to deepen industry cooperation and promote bilateral trade and investment.

Accompanied by senior government officials and business representatives, Goyal met Finland’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Sakari Puisto, to discuss expanding collaboration in financial markets, innovation, enterprise financing and trade.

The visit follows the elevation of India-Finland ties to a Strategic Partnership in Digitalisation and Sustainability during Finnish President Alexander Stubb’s visit to India in March. It also comes after the conclusion of the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement earlier this year.

Speaking at the India-Finland Business Forum in Helsinki, Goyal said both countries were aiming to double bilateral trade by 2030. He highlighted the opportunities created by the India-EU Free Trade Agreement to strengthen cooperation in trade, manufacturing, investment and innovation.

On the sidelines of the forum, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) signed two MoUs—one with Business Finland and another with the Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK)—to create structured platforms for closer industry collaboration and increased business engagement.

The business forum brought together policymakers and industry leaders from both countries to discuss ways to expand commercial ties and identify new areas of cooperation.

Indian and Finnish companies also participated in sector-focused meetings covering digital and emerging technologies, space, clean energy, the bioeconomy, the circular economy, infrastructure and advanced manufacturing, with discussions centred on investment, technology partnerships and innovation.

The day’s programme concluded with a networking reception hosted by the Embassy of India in Helsinki, attended by government officials, business leaders and other stakeholders.

According to the Commerce Ministry, the visit highlights the growing momentum in India-Finland economic relations and reflects both countries’ commitment to building a stronger partnership focused on innovation, resilience and sustainable growth.
