Travelling to the holy Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine is set to become more convenient, with Indian Railways introducing four new train services to improve connectivity to Jammu and Kashmir. The new additions are expected to offer pilgrims faster, more comfortable travel options while easing passenger rush during peak pilgrimage periods.

New train services for Vaishno Devi pilgrims

1. New Delhi–Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Vande Bharat Express
The new Vande Bharat service between New Delhi and Katra will provide a quicker and more comfortable journey for devotees travelling to the shrine, reducing travel time while offering modern onboard amenities.

2. Jammu Tawi–Srinagar Vande Bharat Express
This service strengthens rail connectivity within Jammu and Kashmir, making it easier for passengers to travel between Jammu and Srinagar and providing smoother onward connectivity for pilgrims visiting the region.

3. Srinagar–Jammu Tawi Vande Bharat Express
The return Vande Bharat service between Srinagar and Jammu Tawi further enhances travel options for passengers moving between Kashmir and Jammu, including those heading to Katra.

4. Amritsar–Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Express
Pilgrims from Punjab will now have another direct rail option with the launch of the Amritsar–Katra Express, making access to the revered shrine more convenient.

More travel options for devotees

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine attracts millions of devotees every year, with footfall increasing significantly during festivals and holiday seasons. The introduction of these new services is expected to ease congestion and provide greater flexibility for travellers planning the pilgrimage.

In addition to the newly launched trains, passengers can continue to choose from several existing services to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, including the Vande Bharat Express, Shri Shakti Express, Jammu Rajdhani and Swaraj Express, depending on their departure city and travel schedule.
