Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Wednesday conferred with Ghana’s highest civilian honour, The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana, in recognition of his “distinguished statesmanship and influential global leadership.”

PM Modi received the award from Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama during his official visit to the West African nation. Expressing gratitude, the Prime Minister said in a post on X (formerly Twitter), “Honoured to be conferred with ‘The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’.”

In his acceptance remarks, PM Modi described the recognition as a great honour not just for himself, but for the people of India. “I humbly accept this award on behalf of 140 crore Indians,” he said, dedicating it to the youth of India, the country’s cultural richness, and the enduring ties between India and Ghana.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that the award acknowledges PM Modi’s global influence and strong leadership, and reflects the growing partnership between the two nations. Modi noted that the honour “further deepens the friendship between our countries” and added that it places “a new responsibility to strengthen and advance bilateral ties.”
