Pooja Bhatt Reveals Soni Razdan Felt Guilty Over Relationship With Mahesh Bhatt During His First Marriage

Pooja Bhatt has opened up about a deeply personal conversation she once had with Soni Razdan regarding her relationship with filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and the guilt Soni reportedly carried over his first marriage ending.

Speaking during an interview on Vickey Lalwani’s YouTube channel, Pooja reflected on her relationship with Soni Razdan and the emotional honesty that shaped their bond over the years.

Recalling a conversation that took place in Coonoor, Pooja said Soni had once confessed to feeling guilty about becoming part of Mahesh Bhatt’s life while he was still married to Kiran Bhatt.

“Soni had a heart-to-heart conversation with me,” Pooja shared. “She said, ‘Pooja, I too felt very guilty.’”

Pooja said she responded by reassuring Soni that a strong relationship cannot simply be broken by an outsider entering the picture.

“I told her with all my heart that you could not have broken a relationship that was truly together,” Pooja said. “There is no space for anybody in a relationship that is solid unless there are already cracks somewhere or something important is missing.”

The actor-filmmaker also revealed that she learned about Mahesh Bhatt’s relationship with Soni long before it became public knowledge — and even before her mother knew.

According to Pooja, Mahesh Bhatt personally spoke to her about the relationship and his decision to move out.

“He woke me up and told me he had met someone and would be moving out,” she recalled. “But he also told me that it did not mean he loved me any less and that he would always be there for me.”

Pooja said she appreciated hearing the truth directly from her parents rather than through film magazines or gossip.

“I would rather hear it from my father or mother than from Stardust, Cine Blitz or people around me,” she said.

While acknowledging that she witnessed her mother Kiran Bhatt’s pain during that period, Pooja noted that both her parents handled the separation with dignity and mutual respect.

Mahesh Bhatt was married to Kiran Bhatt and shares two children with her — Pooja Bhatt and Rahul Bhatt. He later fell in love with Soni Razdan during the making of Saaransh. The couple married in 1986 and went on to have two daughters, Alia Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt.

In an earlier interview with Simi Garewal in 1998, Soni Razdan had also spoken candidly about the early years of her relationship with Mahesh Bhatt and the challenges they faced as a blended family.

She admitted there were tensions initially but said things improved significantly after their marriage, adding that over time, they all developed a much healthier relationship with one another.
