PV Sindhu Lone Seeded Indian Singles Player at BWF World Championships 2025.

PV Sindhu is the only Indian singles player to be seeded at the much-anticipated BWF World Championships, scheduled from 25 to 31 August in Paris, France. She is seeded 15th out of 16 players in the women’s singles bracket, which is led by defending champion An Se Young.

At the previous World Championships in Copenhagen in 2023, India had two men’s singles players seeded among the top 16—HS Prannoy (No. 9) and Lakshya Sen (No. 11). However, this year there is no Indian representation among the top 16 seeds in men’s singles.

The seedings were based on the world rankings as of 8 August.

Sindhu will be looking to regain her big-match form after an inconsistent season so far. She started the year with a quarter-final finish at the India Open but has since struggled to reach the quarter-finals in other tournaments. The two-time Olympic medallist boasts an impressive World Championships record, with five medals including gold from the 2019 Basel edition.

Lakshya Sen has also faced an uneven season in 2025. Despite reaching the quarter-finals at the All England Open earlier this year, he found it difficult during the Asian leg of the season. A notable exception was the Macau Open in July-August, where Lakshya reached the semi-finals before losing to lower-ranked Indonesian shuttler Alwi Farhan.

Currently ranked 21st globally, Lakshya is known for performing well in big tournaments. Fans will hope the Almora-born shuttler can rise to the occasion again, as he did when he won bronze at the 2021 World Championships in Huelva.

Kidambi Srikanth, the silver medallist from the 2021 edition, is currently ranked 43rd. Signs of a comeback have appeared, including a finalist finish at the Malaysia Masters in May, where he entered as a qualifier. Nevertheless, Srikanth faces a tough challenge in Paris with a demanding draw.

Doubles Pairs Secure Seedings

In men’s doubles, former World No. 1 duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are seeded ninth. After recovering from injury setbacks, they reached the semi-finals of the China Open in July and the quarter-finals of the Macau Open.

In women’s doubles, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand secured the 12th seed, while the mixed doubles pairing of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto earned the 16th seed.

Other Key Updates

A major blow to the tournament is the withdrawal of Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen due to injury. The men’s singles defending champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn is seeded third, with China’s Shi Yuqi holding the top seed.

The 2025 BWF World Championships will feature 64 players in each singles category and 32 pairs in each doubles category.
