Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said he had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing dissent over the process to select the new CBI Director, alleging that the exercise was “biased”.

The Congress leader said he could not “abdicate” his constitutional responsibility by participating in what he described as an unfair process, asserting that the Leader of Opposition was “not a rubber stamp”.

“I have written to the Prime Minister recording my dissent from the CBI Director selection process. I cannot abdicate my constitutional duty by participating in a biased exercise,” Rahul Gandhi said in a post on X.

“The Leader of Opposition is not a rubber stamp,” he added.

The selection of the CBI Director is carried out by a high-powered committee comprising the Prime Minister, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and the Chief Justice of India or a nominee judge.
