Vivek Vikram Singh Shares Heartfelt Tribute to Sunjay Kapur: ‘The World Needs More Friends Like You’.
Vivek Vikram Singh, CEO of Sona Comstar, took to social media platform X to pen a moving tribute to his late friend and mentor, industrialist Sunjay Kapur, who passed away on June 12 in London after suffering a heart attack during a polo match. Kapur’s funeral was held in Delhi on June 19.
In a deeply personal message, Singh shared the emotional weight of bidding farewell to someone who had been far more than a colleague:
“Yesterday, I had the heartbreak of shouldering my best friend on his final journey — a man who was always prouder of my achievements than I ever was. If everyone had even one such friend, the world would be a kinder, better place. May you rest in peace, Sunjay.”
Singh’s tribute was in reply to a post from November 2024, where Kapur had publicly celebrated Singh’s leadership at Sona Comstar. At the time, Kapur had written:
“So proud of you, Vivek! It was great to be there to share this moment with you. A well-deserved recognition for your leadership at Sona Comstar. Congrats, once again, and more power to you!”
Who Was Sunjay Kapur?
Sunjay Kapur was a towering presence in the Indian automotive industry. As Chairman of Sona Comstar Ltd., he played a key role in shaping the company’s trajectory and the larger manufacturing ecosystem in India. Kapur held prominent leadership positions, including:
- Chairman of CII Northern Region
- Co-Chairman of CII Manufacturing Council
- Former President of ACMA (Automotive Component Manufacturers Association)
He also made history as the first Indian appointed Global Chairman of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization, a global network of business leaders.
But beyond boardrooms and industry accolades, Kapur was known for his commitment to personal growth, love for fitness, and passion for polo. He dedicated much of his life to making the elite sport more inclusive and accessible—ironically, it was during a match of the game he loved that his life came to a sudden end.
As the business world mourns the loss of an influential figure, Vivek Vikram Singh’s tribute stands out—a reminder of the friendships, loyalty, and quiet human bonds that endure far beyond corporate titles.
