Sonam Raghuvanshi Fled as Husband Was Attacked, Returned Only After His Death: Police

Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi, allegedly fled the scene after he was first struck with a machete and returned.

Raja was reportedly attacked by hitmen hired to kill him during the couple’s honeymoon in Meghalaya. A police officer involved in the investigation said, “When he started bleeding and screaming, Sonam ran away. Vishal and the other hitmen continued to attack Raja with the machete. She returned only after he died.”

The Meghalaya Police later recreated the crime scene and recovered the second machete used in the killing from the site where Raja’s body was found on June 2. The couple had gone missing on May 23, just three days after they arrived in Meghalaya for their honeymoon. They had been married on May 11 in Indore.

Following an intense search, Sonam was arrested from Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur on June 9. She initially claimed she had been drugged, abducted, and left in Ghazipur, but police say she had voluntarily surrendered and later confessed to her role in the murder.

Authorities also arrested Raj Kushwaha, who is alleged to be Sonam’s lover, along with three other individuals believed to be the hired attackers. All suspects have been handed over to Meghalaya Police, who continue to investigate the broader conspiracy and motives behind the murder.
