Gen Z Honeymooners Redefine Romance with Authentic, Experience-Led Travel.
For Gen Z couples, the honeymoon is no longer just a luxury vacation — it’s a deeply personal experience. A recent survey by Pickyourtrail reveals that India’s youngest generation of travellers is trading off-the-shelf itineraries and luxury resorts for immersive, story-driven adventures that reflect their personalities and passions.
From Itineraries to Intentional Journeys
Unlike traditional millennial honeymooners who favoured comfort and predictability, Gen Z couples are focusing on authenticity and connection. According to the survey, 62% of Gen Z travellers prefer curated, experience-led trips, compared to 38% of millennials who still lean toward structured, familiar itineraries.
“Gen Z isn’t interested in cookie-cutter holidays,” the report notes. “They’re looking for journeys that feel personal — something they can remember not for where they went, but for what they felt.”
Top Destinations and Rising Budgets
The survey identifies Vietnam and Dubai as emerging favourites among Indian honeymooners, joining enduring classics such as Maldives, Bali, Thailand, and Europe. Vietnam, in particular, has surged in popularity among Tier-2 and Tier-3 travellers seeking affordable yet culturally rich experiences.
The average honeymoon budget now ranges between ₹1–2 lakh, with those opting for curated experiences spending ₹3–4 lakh. Overall, honeymoon-related spending has seen a steady 5% annual increase. Major metros — Chennai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad — continue to lead in booking volumes.
A Shift Toward Meaningful Experiences
Hari, co-founder of Pickyourtrail, says this transformation reflects a deeper mindset shift among young couples. “Today’s honeymooners want their trips to feel like an extension of their relationship — personal, meaningful, and full of discovery,” he explains. “More than half of our customers now request curated experiences instead of standard packages.”
While the traditional five-night honeymoon format remains popular, what fills those days has changed dramatically. Couples are now signing up for activities like making their own silver rings, learning local recipes, exploring indigenous wellness rituals, and connecting with local communities.
