‘Jana Nayagan’ to Add Six Deleted Scenes From Next Week, Director H Vinoth Confirms

Jana Nayagan, Vijay’s final film before his full-time entry into politics, is set to get an extended theatrical version. Director H. Vinoth has revealed that six deleted scenes may be added to the film from next week, giving fans more of the Thalapathy on the big screen.

Released worldwide on July 23, 2026, after being delayed from its original January 9 release due to certification issues, the political action drama has enjoyed a strong run at the box office.

Six Deleted Scenes May Return

Speaking at the film’s success meet in Chennai on Monday, H. Vinoth said the team is considering restoring six scenes that were removed from the final cut.

“There are six scenes that we had deleted. There are two fun (comedy) scenes featuring sir (Vijay), two action scenes and two other emotional scenes,” the director said.

Asked when audiences could expect to see them, Vinoth explained that the decision ultimately lies with the producers. However, he hinted that the additional footage could be incorporated into the theatrical version as early as next week.

“No, I am ready. We will think about adding them from next week or so,” he said when the event host jokingly suggested the decision should be his.

Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by Venkat K. Narayana under KVN Productions, Jana Nayagan stars Vijay, Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde and Mamitha Baiju in lead roles. The supporting cast includes Nassar, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Narain and Priyamani.

The film is the official Tamil remake of the 2023 Telugu blockbuster Bhagavanth Kesari. It follows a former IPS officer who takes responsibility for his late friend’s daughter, helping her overcome childhood trauma while encouraging her to pursue a career in the Indian Army. As he supports her journey, he finds himself confronting powerful and corrupt forces threatening the country’s democratic system.

The review praised Vijay’s commanding screen presence, stating that he delivers exactly what his fans expect with his trademark charisma, emotional intensity and style. At the same time, it noted that the performance occasionally feels familiar and offers few surprises.

The review also observed that while the film boasts moments of visual grandeur, its political narrative is weakened by uneven writing and underdeveloped conflicts. However, it concluded that Jana Nayagan succeeds as an emotional farewell to one of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars.

Rather than simply telling a political story, the film serves as a tribute to Vijay’s remarkable journey in cinema, making it a fitting curtain call before his transition into public life.
