KL Rahul Joins Vengsarkar with Second Test Hundred at Lord’s.

Star batter KL Rahul etched his name into the history books on Day 3 of the third Test against England, becoming only the second Indian to score multiple Test centuries at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground. Rahul brought up his second hundred at the venue, joining the legendary Dilip Vengsarkar, who struck three tons in three consecutive Lord’s Tests — the most by any visiting batter at the ground.

Rahul’s knock was also his 10th Test century and fourth on English soil. Notably, he already holds the record for the most Test centuries by an Indian opener in England.

Resuming his innings on an overnight score of 53, Rahul played a measured hand while Rishabh Pant took the attack to England early in the day. He opened his account with a crisp backfoot punch through the off side off Chris Woakes and found momentum soon after, striking three consecutive boundaries off Brydon Carse.

Rahul looked increasingly fluent, especially against Carse, and entered the 90s just before lunch. However, a mix-up with Pant led to the latter’s run-out on 74 while trying to give Rahul the strike on 98.

Shortly after the break, Rahul brought up his century — a composed single off Jofra Archer — becoming just the fourth visiting opener to score multiple Test tons at Lord’s. However, his innings ended soon after when he edged Shoaib Bashir to first slip for a well-compiled 100.

Rahul had previously scored 129 at Lord’s in the memorable 2021 Test, earning the Player of the Match award in India’s famous victory. With this latest knock, he has reaffirmed his affinity for one of cricket’s grandest stages.
