With her boyfriend’s blood smeared on her forehead like vermilion, Aachal Mamilwar made a disturbing allegation after the killing of 24-year-old Saksham Tatte in Maharashtra’s Nanded.

She claimed her family murdered Saksham because he belonged to a lower caste, and that her brother acted after taking a police taunt as a “challenge.”

Aachal said she “married” Saksham’s body as a final act of love and has decided to live with his family. “Even though Saksham is no longer alive, I still love him and will stay at his house,” the 21-year-old said.

According to her, earlier on the day of the murder, her brother took her to a police station to file a false complaint against Saksham. Aachal said she refused, and that officers allegedly mocked her family. “They told my brother that instead of fabricating cases, why not kill him before coming to them. My brother took it as a dare and killed him,” she told reporters, as quoted by ANI.

Police arrested eight people — including Aachal’s father, brothers, and other associates — within 12 hours of the murder. Investigators said both Saksham and the accused had criminal records.

Aachal said she had been in a relationship with Saksham for three years. Her family opposed the relationship because he belonged to a Scheduled Caste. A murder case and charges under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act have been filed based on a complaint by Saksham’s mother.

On Thursday around 5:30 pm, Aachal’s father Gajanan, brothers Sahil and Himesh, and others allegedly confronted Saksham after learning he was nearby. They shot him and then struck him with a large stone, killing him on the spot. Witnesses said the attack was sudden and swift.

Aachal later demanded the death penalty for her parents and brothers, accusing them of planning the killing soon after Saksham’s release from jail. She also claimed her family repeatedly threatened him and insisted he convert to Hinduism if he wanted to marry her — a demand she said Saksham had agreed to.

“My family was just waiting for an opportunity to kill him,” she said. “The killers of Saksham should be given the death penalty. I want justice.”
