Zubeen Garg’s Family Launches Trust to Preserve Late Singer’s Legacy.
Garima Garg, the wife of the late Zubeen Garg, announced on Friday the establishment of a trust in the cultural icon’s name to preserve and carry forward his artistic, social, and cultural contributions to Assam. The announcement came alongside the family’s call for the speedy delivery of justice in the case related to his murder.
Addressing reporters, Garima Garg, accompanied by family members and associates, expressed hope for a year of peace and positivity, while reaffirming confidence that justice would ultimately prevail.
“Zubeen dedicated his life to the people of Assam. It is now our responsibility to uphold his values and take his work forward by following the path he showed,” Garima said.
After nearly three-and-a-half months of consultations with family, friends, and well-wishers, the Zubeen Garg Trust was formally created. The family’s property in Kharghuli will be handed over to the trust to serve as a centre for social, cultural, and creative initiatives close to the late singer’s heart.
Garima Garg also thanked Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the state government for steps taken in the investigation, while urging authorities to expedite the probe to ensure timely justice.
The trust will operate through three dedicated wings:
Kalaguru Foundation – focusing on socio-cultural initiatives.
Abhinaya Performing Arts – promoting theatre and performance arts, particularly among youth (originally founded by Zubeen Garg in his sister’s name).
Research Wing – documenting Zubeen Garg’s life, works, and contributions to Assam’s cultural and social landscape, including preservation of his intellectual property.
The family emphasized that Zubeen Garg remains deeply embedded in the hearts of the people of Assam and stressed the importance of preserving his ideals, discipline, and vision for future generations.
The trust will focus on society, culture, youth welfare, nature conservation, and public health. Several health camps have already been organised in Zubeen Garg’s name. The initiative has received support from friends, members of Assam’s cultural and administrative circles, media personalities, and the Zubeen Fan Club, fondly called his “army.”
