Amid heavy rainfall and severe weather conditions across Delhi-NCR, corporate offices and private establishments in Gurugram have been advised to encourage employees to work from home on August 8.
The advisory was issued after Gurugram recorded 60 mm of rainfall between 8 am and 5 pm on August 7, raising concerns over waterlogging, traffic congestion and disruptions to movement across the city.
Gurugram Deputy Commissioner and District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) chairman Uttam Singh issued the advisory, India Today reported.
According to the district administration, reducing the number of commuters on the roads would help ease traffic congestion and allow civic agencies to carry out water drainage, repair and restoration work more efficiently.
Why Has Gurugram Issued A Work-From-Home Advisory?
The advisory is aimed at reducing unnecessary movement during the spell of heavy rain and easing pressure on Gurugram’s already busy roads.
Corporate offices and private institutions have therefore been asked to encourage employees to work remotely on August 8. Fewer commuters on the roads would also give authorities greater room to undertake drainage and restoration work in areas affected by rainfall.
The administration has also urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and exercise caution while commuting, particularly in areas prone to waterlogging and traffic disruptions.
Gurugram Residents Asked To Remain Cautious
Officials have warned that several parts of Gurugram could experience waterlogging and traffic jams as rainfall continues, potentially affecting commuters across the city and neighbouring areas.
Residents have been advised to monitor weather conditions, plan their journeys accordingly and avoid venturing out unless necessary.
The district administration said the measures are intended to minimise disruption while ensuring that essential civic services, drainage operations and restoration work continue smoothly.
The advisory comes as Delhi and other parts of the NCR also grapple with heavy rainfall, with weather-related disruptions potentially affecting movement across the wider region. Gurugram, a major corporate and commuting hub, is likely to see a significant impact if road conditions deteriorate further.
