Ayushmann Khurrana on ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ Chant in Udta Teer: ‘As an Actor, You Do What the Script Demands’

Ayushmann Khurrana has addressed the use of the chant “Pakistan Zindabad” in his upcoming film Udta Teer, saying that actors have to follow what the script requires.

Khurrana plays a Pakistani spy in the film who loses his memory and begins believing that he is Indian. At the trailer launch, the actor was asked whether delivering the chant was difficult for him.

Ayushmann Khurrana Says It Is Part of the Script

Responding to the question, Khurrana said the chant is part of the story and noted that similar elements have appeared in spy films before. He also highlighted the film’s unusual mix of genres.

“That’s part of the script. As an actor, you are ready to do anything. Voh toh hota hi raha hai, har ek spy film mein hota hai,” he said.

The actor added that Udta Teer is not a conventional spy thriller, describing it as a “spy comedy” and a “patriotic comedy” as well as a “genre bender”.

Khurrana said he approaches projects primarily through their scripts and follows the director’s vision.

“I always look at the script first. Whatever the script demands from me, I do. And I am a director’s baby, and he has written a fantastic script,” the actor said.

The film also stars Sara Ali Khan, who revealed that Udta Teer was filmed before she and Khurrana appeared together in Pati Patni Aur Woh Do.

Recalling her experience of working on the project, Khan said she had a great time shooting the film and enjoyed exploring a completely different dynamic with the actor.

“I had a blast, honestly. This film, actually, we shot before Pati Patni Aur Woh Do. But accha tha, alag tha,” she said.

Khan explained that as an actor, it is exciting to work with the same co-star while creating entirely different chemistry based on the characters and their relationships.

She pointed out that while her character in one film creates chaos in Khurrana’s life, in the other she plays his wife, resulting in two very different equations.

“Ek jagah aap unki life mein tehelka banke aayi ho, ek jagah par aap inki wife hain—equation itna alag hai,” Khan said, adding that experiencing such contrasting dynamics with the same actor was thrilling.

Akash A Kaushik Makes His Directorial Debut

Udta Teer marks the directorial debut of Akash A Kaushik and features a large ensemble cast.

Alongside Khurrana and Khan, the film stars Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Suhail Nayyar, Gulshan Grover, Mukul Dev, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Sandeep Anand, Supriya Pilgaonkar and Smita Tambe.

The spy comedy is scheduled to release in cinemas on October 9, 2026.
