Actor Ranvir Shorey has reacted to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation, questioning the timing of the Centre’s decision and suggesting it could alienate the government’s supporters while failing to appease its critics.

Pradhan resigned on July 25, bringing an end to weeks of protests over the NEET paper leak controversy. The government also accepted several demands raised by student protesters, including withdrawing FIRs against peaceful demonstrators and announcing compensation for families of students who allegedly died by suicide in connection with the issue. Following the announcement, protesters called off their sit-in at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

Ranvir Shorey Questions Government’s Move

Reacting on X, Shorey shared a GIF expressing surprise before posting:

“And in one swift move the Modi govt has managed to win over none of its enemies, and disenchant a lot of its supporters. #masterstroke.”

When another user asked whether he believed Pradhan should not have resigned, the actor clarified that his objection was not to the resignation itself but to its timing.

“Yes, but should have done it before the streets were held hostage. Now it seems supporters will not be heard, but ‘cockroaches’ on streets will!”

The remark quickly drew attention on social media, with users divided over Shorey’s criticism of the government’s handling of the protests.

Celebrities Backed the Student Movement

Over the course of the agitation, several Bollywood personalities publicly expressed support for the protesting students. Actors Prakash Raj, Shabana Azmi, Sonakshi Sinha, Vijay Varma, Gurfateh Pirzada, Pratibha Ranta, and Shalini Pandey, along with rapper Hanumankind, either joined demonstrations or voiced solidarity on social media.

The movement, led by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), initially focused on alleged irregularities in the NEET examination before expanding into broader demands for accountability and reforms in the education system.

Celebrations After Resignation

Following Pradhan’s resignation, celebrations broke out at Jantar Mantar, where protesters hailed the development as a major victory. While calling the minister’s exit an important milestone, CJP leaders said their campaign for wider education reforms would continue.
