IMD Issues Orange Alert for Heavy Rain in Maharashtra, Covers Mumbai, Pune, Thane

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued an orange alert for Mumbai amid persistent rainfall that has already disrupted daily life across the city with waterlogging in several areas.

According to the IMD, Mumbai and its suburbs are likely to experience a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate showers, while temperatures are expected to hover between 26°C and 30°C.

The orange alert has also been extended to Pune, Raigad, Thane, Jalna, Satara, and Aurangabad, while a yellow alert has been sounded in Nagpur, Nashik, Chandrapur, and Latur.

Officials said the current spell of rain is linked to a cyclonic circulation over Vidarbha and adjoining regions at mid and upper levels, which is fueling moisture-laden winds across Maharashtra.

The IMD further forecast that Marathwada and North Madhya Maharashtra will likely see light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, while Konkan-Goa and South Madhya Maharashtra can expect scattered showers. Winds are projected to blow at speeds of 45–55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph in some areas.
