Trump Cancels Secret Service Protection for Former VP Kamala Harris.
US President Donald Trump has withdrawn the extended Secret Service protection previously granted to former Vice President Kamala Harris, a White House official confirmed on Friday.
Under US law, former vice presidents are eligible for six months of Secret Service coverage after leaving office. President Joe Biden had extended Harris’ protection by an additional year through an executive order before leaving office. Trump’s recent memo, effective September 1, 2025, directs that “any security-related procedures previously authorised…beyond those required by law” be discontinued for Harris.
The revocation comes just weeks ahead of Harris’ nationwide book tour for her memoir 107 Days, recounting her 2024 presidential campaign, which ended in defeat to Trump on November 5, 2024.
With the withdrawal, Harris will lose her assigned Secret Service agents, residence surveillance in Los Angeles, and intelligence-gathering support that helps identify potential threats. Private security to replace the Secret Service would cost several million dollars annually.
Since taking office in January, Trump has revoked Secret Service protection for several high-profile figures, including Hunter and Ashley Biden and Dr. Anthony Fauci. The move highlights the president’s broader rollback of federal security measures for former political figures.
