Jaish-e-Mohammed Rebuilds Bahawalpur Headquarters After Operation Sindoor Damage

The Bahawalpur headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), a UN-designated terrorist organisation, has reportedly been reconstructed around 15 months after sustaining extensive damage during India’s Operation Sindoor strikes in May 2025.

JeM facility restored

Recent footage reportedly shows the Markaz Subhanallah complex functioning again after a major reconstruction effort. The facility’s damaged domes have been rebuilt, while sections of the complex have received fresh plaster, paint and new marble flooring.

Blast-damaged areas inside the main hall have also been repaired, with deep impact zones reportedly filled with concrete. Several adjoining structures, including the Al-Sabir seminary and residential facilities used by the group’s leadership, were reportedly demolished as part of the reconstruction.

According to intelligence inputs cited in reports, Pakistani authorities allegedly provided around 250 million Pakistani rupees in financial assistance to JeM. Of that amount, approximately 110 million rupees was reportedly allocated for rebuilding the central Bahawalpur complex over a period of 15 months.

Leadership changes at Bahawalpur base

With JeM chief Masood Azhar reportedly suffering from serious health problems, operational control of the Bahawalpur facility has shifted to his brothers, Talha Al-Saif and Mohinuddin Aurangzeb, also known as Ammar Alvi, according to intelligence sources.

Sources further claim that Masood Azhar and senior JeM commander Rauf Asghar are currently under government protection in Nawabshah, Sindh.

Operation Sindoor and JeM

India launched Operation Sindoor in May 2025 following the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 people were killed.

The Indian military targeted multiple terror infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, including facilities associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen.

The strikes were described by India as a response to the Pahalgam attack and an effort to dismantle terrorist infrastructure used to plan and support attacks against India.

The reported reconstruction of the Bahawalpur facility has now renewed scrutiny of the continued presence and activities of JeM infrastructure in Pakistan.
