Jana Nayagan Box Office Day 2: Vijay’s film sees expected dip, crosses Rs 63 crore in India
Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited swansong, Jana Nayagan, witnessed a significant drop at the box office on its second day after a strong opening. The political action drama, which hit theatres on July 23, earned Rs 21.15 crore net in India on Day 2, taking its two-day domestic total to Rs 63.85 crore net, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
The film had opened with an impressive Rs 42.70 crore net in India and a Rs 78.27 crore worldwide gross on its first day. However, collections dipped by nearly 50% on Friday, a trend often seen after a front-loaded opening driven by fan enthusiasm.
Among all languages, the Tamil version continued to dominate the film’s earnings, contributing Rs 17.95 crore on Day 2. The Hindi version collected Rs 1.85 crore, while the Telugu version added Rs 1.35 crore. With two days completed, the film’s India gross collection stands at around Rs 75 crore.
Mixed response from critics and audiences
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan has received mixed reviews from both critics and moviegoers.
News18 awarded the film 3 out of 5 stars, praising its emotional moments, action sequences and mass appeal while noting that the screenplay occasionally leans heavily on Vijay’s larger-than-life persona. The review highlighted that the film delivers the theatrical experience fans expect, even if some portions feel more focused on hero elevation than narrative depth.
