Kapil Sharma Threatened by Pro-Khalistan Leader Pannun Over Canadian Business Venture.

Actor-comedian Kapil Sharma has become the latest target of pro-Khalistan separatist leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who issued a video threat accusing him of promoting “violent Hindutva ideology” under the guise of business in Canada.

“Canada is not your playground. Take your blood money back to Hindustan,” said Pannun in a video message directed at Sharma. He further questioned whether the comedian’s newly opened café in Surrey, British Columbia, was part of a broader “strategy to export Hindutva.”

Pannun is the founder of the banned group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), and has been designated an “individual terrorist” by India’s Ministry of Home Affairs since 2019. SFJ itself is outlawed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for its secessionist agenda and alleged ties with militant groups.

The threat surfaced days after Sharma’s restaurant, Kap’s Cafe, was targeted in a shooting incident on Wednesday night. The café, which opened on July 4 in Surrey, came under fire by unidentified gunmen, though no injuries were reported.

Two men — Harjit Singh Laddi and Toofan Singh — both reportedly associated with the banned terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), have claimed responsibility for the attack. BKI is recognised as a terrorist group by both the Indian and Canadian governments, and Laddi is listed among the National Investigation Agency’s most-wanted individuals.

Following the attack, Kap’s Cafe issued a statement on Instagram saying they were “processing the shock” but stood firmly against violence. As of now, Sharma has not made any public comment.

Pannun, who faces over 100 criminal cases in India and is currently under investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), has long used social media and video messages to issue threats against Indian nationals, public figures, and government institutions.

According to the Indian government, SFJ remains actively involved in subversive activities aimed at disrupting the country’s sovereignty and inciting separatism, particularly in Punjab. The group is also accused of fostering ties with militant outfits to further its cause.

Security agencies are currently reviewing the latest threat and the attack on Sharma’s establishment, with officials not ruling out further attempts to target Indian-owned businesses abroad.
