Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan Condemns US Venezuela Operation as ‘Rogue State Terrorism’

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday strongly condemned the United States’ military operation in Venezuela, calling it an “act of terrorism” and accusing the US of acting like a “rogue state.” He warned that such “blatant imperialist aggression” threatens global peace and stability in Latin America.

In a post on his official social media account, Vijayan described the strikes on Caracas’ strategic centres as a “vicious operation” aimed at imposing “devious schemes” on the Global South. Citing Latin America’s history of resisting foreign interventions, he framed the US action as a modern-day continuation of colonial-style bullying, urging international unity to protect the sovereignty of independent nations.

The remarks follow Saturday’s US operation in which President Donald Trump confirmed that special forces captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. Maduro is now in US custody, facing narcoterrorism charges in a New York federal court. While the US justified the action as targeting a “criminal narco-state,” Left leaders in India view it as a resource-driven regime-change operation.

Vijayan’s statement aligns with the CPI(M) politburo’s call for the immediate withdrawal of US forces from the Caribbean. Senior Left leaders, including MA Baby and MV Govindan, criticised the Union Government for its “shameful silence,” highlighting India’s energy and strategic ties with Venezuela through ONGC Videsh and the International Solar Alliance.

The CPI(M) has urged nationwide protests against the “kidnapping” of a sovereign head of state. Vijayan concluded by calling on all nations to defend the right of sovereign countries to determine their own path without external militaristic interference.
