2 Dead, Over 40 Injured After Electric Shock Sparks Panic at UP Temple.

At least two people died and over 40 others were injured in a stampede-like situation early Monday morning at the Awsaneshwar Mahadev Temple in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. The chaos erupted after a live electric wire fell onto a tin shed, triggering electric shocks among devotees gathered for Sawan prayers.

The incident took place around 3 am in Haidergarh, where a large crowd had assembled for the jalabhishek ritual on the third Monday of the Sawan month. According to eyewitnesses, the panic began when a monkey jumped onto overhead electric wires, causing one to snap and fall on the metal roof, electrifying it instantly.

District Magistrate Shashank Tripathi confirmed that around 19 people sustained electric shocks, while others were injured in the ensuing panic. He added that the overhead wire appeared to have been weakened by monkeys.

Two of the victims, including 22-year-old Prashant from Mubarakpura village, died during treatment at the Trivediganj Community Health Center. The identity of the second deceased is yet to be confirmed.

Police forces were already deployed at the temple site due to the expected crowd. Authorities say the situation is now under control, and an investigation is ongoing.
