Thailand Secures Deal With Iran for Safe Passage of Oil Tankers Through Strait of Hormuz

Thailand has reached an agreement with Iran to ensure safe passage for its oil vessels through the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced on Saturday.

Speaking at a press conference, the Thai leader said the agreement would allow Thai oil tankers to transit the key shipping route without disruption, amid rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia that have raised concerns over global energy supplies.

“An agreement has been reached to allow Thai oil tankers to transit safely through the Strait of Hormuz,” Anutin said, adding that the move is expected to ease worries about Thailand’s fuel imports.

The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow but vital maritime corridor, handles a significant portion of the world’s oil shipments. Any disruption in the region can have far-reaching implications for energy markets and import-dependent nations like Thailand.

The agreement comes as countries across Asia closely monitor developments in the region, seeking to secure energy supply lines and minimise risks linked to the ongoing instability.
