Trump Says Norwegians Are Not Welcome in US After Nobel Peace Prize Snub

US President Donald Trump launched a fresh verbal attack on Norway on Sunday, describing the country in derogatory terms and declaring that Norwegian immigrants were not welcome in the United States because he had not received the Nobel Peace Prize.

Trump made the remarks during a political rally in Port Huron, Michigan, as the country prepares for next week’s midterm elections.

Speaking about immigration and linking recent unrest in France to the issue, Trump said the US would welcome immigrants from certain countries but exclude those from Norway over the Nobel snub.

“I don’t want anybody from Norway,” Trump said, referring to the decision not to award him the Nobel Peace Prize. He also described Norway as a “shit house country,” a derogatory expression he has previously used when referring to Haiti, Libya, Somalia and Yemen.

However, there was no indication that the Trump administration was planning to introduce any new official immigration restrictions specifically targeting Norwegian nationals.

Trump’s remarks drew a sharp contrast with Norway’s economic standing. The country ranks among the world’s highest-income nations in terms of GDP per capita, according to International Monetary Fund data. Norway’s sovereign wealth fund also reported a record profit of 1.75 trillion Norwegian crowns, equivalent to approximately $184.3 billion, during the first half of 2026.

Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a representative of the Norwegian Nobel Committee did not immediately respond to requests for comment made outside regular office hours.

Trump has repeatedly expressed frustration over not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. Earlier this month, he described the decision to deny him the award as an “indelible stain” on Norway, further intensifying his criticism of the country.
