Iran Says US Deal to End Middle East Conflict Nearing Finalisation
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Friday said Tehran and Washington are closer than ever to reaching an agreement aimed at ending the conflict in the Middle East, while cautioning against speculation over the contents of the proposed deal.
In a post on X, Araghchi said the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding” — named after Pakistan’s capital, where earlier rounds of talks were held — is nearing completion and could soon be finalised.
“The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has never been closer,” he wrote, adding that media outlets should avoid speculating about the agreement’s details until negotiations are concluded.
His remarks come amid growing expectations that diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran may soon yield a breakthrough, despite lingering disagreements on key issues.
Araghchi stressed that the Iranian government would maintain transparency and release details of the agreement publicly once the process is completed.
The comments follow reports in Iranian media that purportedly revealed elements of the proposed accord. However, US President Donald Trump dismissed those reports, saying the leaked details did not reflect the terms that had been agreed upon during negotiations.
Posting on Truth Social, Trump criticised the reports and asserted that they had “nothing to do with the terms that were agreed to, in writing.”
While neither side has officially disclosed the contents of the proposed agreement, statements from both Washington and Tehran have fuelled speculation that a diplomatic breakthrough may be within reach after months of tensions and negotiations.
