Kangana Ranaut Takes a U-Turn, Calls Gen Z ‘Great’: ‘They Are Part of the Government’

Weeks after facing backlash over her remarks about Gen Z, actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut appears to have changed her stance. On Friday.

While speaking to reporters outside Parliament, the BJP MP described Gen Z as “a great asset” to the country and said the younger generation is an important part of the government’s mandate.

“Gen Z is the strength of our country and, in a way, a great asset to our nation. We are very happy that our young people are increasingly emerging as ambassadors of our culture and its identity,” Ranaut said, as quoted by The Indian Express.

She also spoke about RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, saying that the younger generation is increasingly connecting with the country’s cultural identity.

“We have also had the opportunity to listen to Mohan Bhagwat ji, whom we hold in the highest regard, and benefit from his wisdom and experience. It is a matter of great happiness that the country’s youth are connecting with us and embracing our cultural identity,” the Mandi MP said.

Ranaut further clarified that she did not believe the small group of people who had criticised or abused her represented Gen Z as a whole.

“Gen Z is part of the government. It is their mandate, which our government has been fulfilling for so many years. Gen Z are great. It’s not like the 10-15 people who are abusing are Gen Z,” she said.

Ranaut’s latest comments come weeks after she faced criticism for her remarks about some young protesters. At the time, she strongly condemned their language and behaviour on social media, even referring to them as “Generation Gutter.”

In one of her Instagram posts, Ranaut criticised videos from the Gen Z-led protests, writing that the language used by some participants was offensive and “crass.” She also questioned the upbringing of those involved and contrasted their behaviour with what she described as India’s cultural sophistication.

In another controversial post, Ranaut took aim at women participating in the protests, referring to some of them as “so-called westernised Indian women.” She criticised what she viewed as their rejection of traditional values and domestic responsibilities.

“I call them Generation Gutter. Some of them have nothing to offer to the system. They are not good at studies. They are so ugly and corrupt that they can’t even be homemakers,” she had written.

Her comments, particularly those targeting young women, sparked a strong reaction on social media. Several users criticised the BJP MP’s remarks, while actor Sonu Sood also condemned them, describing the comments as “shameful.”

Ranaut’s latest remarks praising Gen Z mark a notable shift from her earlier criticism, as she now seeks to distinguish the broader generation from the small group of protesters and social media users she had previously targeted.
